Hiwar is the online newsletter that enables CAWTAR and its partners (members of the regional network on Arab Woman and Local Governance) to share their activities and the results of their advocacy efforts.
It is expected that the newsletter will become a source of information in the field of advocacy and the media.
We are pleased to announce that the second issue of Hiwar was prepared by the Barlaman NGO, an Egypt-based non-profit think tank which conducted the national study in Egypt under CAWTAR’s regional project on Arab Women and Local Governance.
The issue includes information on Barlaman's activities relating to this and other projects. It is worth noting that Barlaman has also been invloved in regional activities of this project and is a key member of its network.

Conference Following the 2005 Parliamentary Elections

 
The conference following the 2005 Parliamentary Elections finished its work on Thursday, January 18th 2007. The conference focused on means of increasing the participation of women in upcoming local council elections.

Conference: Women and Constitutional Amendments

 
The 7th Conference of National Women Council on Consitutitonal Amendments took place in March 2007 in Cairo and focused on women's economic participation, education, gender discrimation and health as issues vital to women’s actual needs.

Workshop on Women's Demands Relating to Upcoming Constitutional Amendments

 
Sunday January 14th 2007 was the final day of the workshop on Women's Demands Relating to Upcoming Constitutions Amendments, which was organized by the Egyptian Center for Women's Rights.

Rasheed: Women Participation in Society is a Vital Issue

 
 
Aicha Rasheed, director of the Towards Better Parliamentary Performance Organization, confirmed that women's participation in society is vital. In a statement to the Kuwait Media Agency, Rasheed discussed how women's issues are not only limited to the demands of their rights but also include a real will and responsibility of women to play an effective role in society.

Workshop on the Role of Women’s Participation in Local Council Elections

 
 
The workshop took place on February 21-22, 2007 in Cairo and deliberated on methods of reinforcing women's participation in local councils.

Launch of Arab League's 1st Encyclopedia of Arab Women's Rights and Their Status in Arab Legislations

 
 
The first encyclopedia of Arab Women's Rights and Their Status in Arab Legislations was published in four volumes covering: nationality law, family law, civil law, labor law, political participation, education and trade.
