2007 Media Workshops and Radio Programs

CAWTAR, in collaboration with its partners in Egypt, Tunisia and Yemen organized two  media workshops and disseminated the findings of the Yemeni study in a radio program.

Media Workshop: June 21, 2007 Cairo

EgyptMediaWorkshopJPEGCAWTAR, in collaboration with the Barlaman Organization, the local group partner of CAWTAR on implementing projects in Egypt, organized a media workshop to discuss the findings of the study conducted by the Organization on Egyptian Women and Local Governance. The event brought together 58 participants, including representatives of the Arab League, UNIFEM, Ministries, MPs and elected local councilors, universities, NGOs, Arab Lawyer Association, and 37 media agencies, correspondents to Arab TVs and Radios, and journalists. The participants discussed the findings of the study as well as the media means in order to cover  women's role and participation in local governance in Egypt. They produced several recommendations for CAWTAR’s media campaign organized under the project. Media Workshop: July 3, 2007 Tunisia

TunisiaMediaWorkshopJPEGCAWTAR, in collaboration with the Urban Governance Program and the Kef Foundation, are  the local groups partners  of CAWTAR on implementing projects in Tunisia, organized a media workshop to discuss the findings of the study conducted by both Organizations on Tunisian  Women and Local Governance. The event brought together 51 participants including Ministries, MPs and elected local councilors, universities, NGOs, youth clubs, experts, Chamber of Commerce and 33 media agencies, correspondents to Arab TVs and Radios, and journalists. The participants discussed the findings of the study as well as the media means in covering women's role and participation in local governance in Tunisia. They created various recommendations for CAWTAR’s media campaign organized under the project to follow-up with. Please see the attached press release of the event, participants list.

Radio Program in Yemen

TunisiaMediaWorkshopJEPEGIn the framework of CAWTAR's media campaign conducted under project, Sisters Human Rights Forum local partner of CAWTAR prepared study on Yemeni women and the local governance,  disseminated the findings of the study in national radio program hosted by Mr. Arif Sarmi, Sanaa Radio and who is a media partner of CAWTAR in Yemen. The Minister of Local Governance in Yemen and Amel Bacha the Director of the Sister’s Forum discussion was broadcasted on the radio (on air) for 45 minutes on June 2, 2007 and repeated on June 3, 2007. The discussion focused on the findings of the study conducted by the Sisters Forum and the program was well received by listeners who were on air asking questions and commenting on the issue.
