CAWTAR held a regional Roundtable on March 14, 2008 in Tunisia, in the frame of its joint project with the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) on Arab Women and Local Governance. The Roundtable was the opportunity to discuss and exchange experiences on Arab women’s participation in local governance councils in the countries partnering in the project, but also to hear about different experiences in this area from representatives of other countries. It was also aimed at encouraging participants to brainstorm on how to use the set of advocacy tools developed in the frame of the project and decide on an advocacy strategy to support women’s participation in local governance in Arab countries. |
This national roundtable was organized in June 2006 in Gustantine province in Algeria. It was attended by representatives of civil society and leaders of local councils. Barlaman Organization CAWTAR's partner in Egypt organized in April 2006 a national roundtable to discuss the findings of the on-site study on Egyptian Women’s Participation in Local Governance.The roundtable was attended by 40 participants representing civil society groups, women leaders in local councils, experts and the media. CAWTAR, in collaboration with Maharat Foundation, organized a national roundtable on June 10th, 2006 in the Press Club, Beirut. The roundtable was attended by 25 participants representing committees and associations, activists in political life, women heads and members of local councils, and women candidates for parliamentary elections and researchers.The participants discussed the findings of the first draft of study conducted by Maharat and recommended different issues to be considered. click here to see roundtable report |
CAWTAR’s partner the Sisters Forum for Human Rights organized a national roundtable which was attended by 85 participants representing local councils, political parties, civil society organizations, women associations and the media. |
CAWTAR, in collaboration with its partners the Urban Development and Management Program and the Alkef Foundation for Rural Development in Tunisia, organized a national roundtable on June 10th, 2006 in the city of Safkis. The roundtable was attended by 30 participants representing governmental institutions, NGOs, activists concerned with women’s issues in local governance and the media. |
